Rajinikanth starrer Jailer becomes 2nd fastest Tamil film to earn Rs 600 crore worldwide

In its second week, Rajinikanth starrer Jailer experienced a decline in its box office collections. Starting off with an impressive Rs 19.2 crore on its second Sunday, the film's earnings witnessed a 70% drop during the weekdays, leading to single-digit collections.

After a relatively sluggish week, Jailer witnessed a resurgence in its box office earnings in its third weekend. On its 18th day, the film crossed the coveted milestone of Rs 600 crore at the worldwide box office, solidifying its position as a huge commercial success.

Despite decline, Jailer witnesses growth in 3rd week

As per the early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, Jailer earned Rs 6.68 crore nett on its third Sunday, taking its domestic collection of Rs 317.63 crore. 

Talking about the worldwide box office, Jailer amassed a total of Rs 450.80 crore in the first week, followed by Rs 124.18 crore in its second week, resulting in a total collection of Rs 574.98 crore over the initial two weeks.

This impressive performance pushed the film's cumulative worldwide box office collection to an impressive Rs 607.29 crore, according to film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan. Jailer follows in the footsteps of Rajinikanth's previous blockbuster 2.0, which also achieved the milestone of entering the Rs 600 crore club in just 10 days.

Jailer v/s Gadar 2 v/s OMG 2

Rajinikanth's Jailer, which was released a day before OMG 2 and Gadar 2, has earned Rs 317.63 crore at the domestic box office so far. Meanwhile, Gadar 2 starring Sunny Deol has crossed Rs 450 crore mark in just 17 days of its release. OMG 2 also maintained a steady pace and earned close to Rs 130 crore despite being given an A certificate by CBFC. 

Jailer revolves around Rajinikanth's character, driven by the desire to avenge the death of his son, a police officer. Helmed by director Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, the film stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan, Sunil Varma, Yogi Babu and Vasanth Ravi. It also features cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff.
