Remembering Balasaheb Thackeray on his death anniversary, Shiv Sena senior leader Sanjay Raut took to social media to pay tribute to the party's late founder

Shiv Sena senior leader Sanjay Raut paid tributes to Shiv Sena late founder Balasaheb Thackeray on his death anniversary. The leader paid his tributes on Twitter with a picture of Balasaheb Thackeray with a caption 'Shiv Sena Zindabad' (Long live Shiv Sena).

Another Shiv Sena leader and the former Minister of Heavy Industries Arvind Swant also paid his tribute to the late leader and said he bows down to the leader.

Sharad Pawar remembers Balasaheb Thackeray

Apart from the Shiv Sena, leaders across the political spectrum have paid tributes to Balasaheb Thackeray, NCP leader Sharad Pawar also paid tributes to the late leader. NCP Chief Shard Pawar posted a message on social media remembering Balasaheb Thackeray and said he left a lasting love in the heart of his followers.

Devendra Fadnavis pays tribute to Balasaheb Thackeray

Amid its tensions with Shiv Sena, Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis also paid tributes to Balasaheb Thackeray.

 "Salutations to our inspirational source, Hindu Hriday (heart) Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray on his death anniversary," Fadnavis tweeted.

Earlier, he also posted a video remembering Bala Saheb Thackeray and said, "Balasaheb taught us the importance of self-respect".

About Balasaheb Thackeray

Famously known as the 'Hindu Hridaysamrat', Bal Thackeray had started as a cartoonist with Free Press Journal (FPJ). After leaving FPJ, Thackeray went on to establish his political weekly - 'Marmik' commenting on the growing influence of non-Marathis in 1960s Bombay. To advocate pro-Marathi interests and to forward the pro-Hindutva cause, Thackeray founded the Shiv Sena.

After the establishment of the Shiv Sena, Thackeray's political sway in Maharashtra - especially in Mumbai grew leaps and bounds. Post -1992, Thackeray - also the founder of Saamana, vociferously fought for the Ram Mandir movement, allying with the BJP as part of the NDA. Thackeray never held any official position but was known as the kingmaker in the Maharashtra government. On November 17, 2012, Thackeray passed away at his residence Matoshree and was accorded a state funeral.
