Donald Trump's 'locked & loaded' threat invites Tulsi Gabbard's ire
Democratic Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard lambasted United States of America President Donald Trump for allegedly toeing the line of Saudi Arabia.
Democratic Party's Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard on Sunday lambasted United States of America President Donald Trump after he said that the US was “locked and loaded” and “waiting to hear from the Kingdom”. He was referring to the attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil supply over the weekend last week. Writing on microblogging website Twitter, she accused US President Trump of awaiting instructions from his “Saudi masters”. She further observed that his policy was not on the lines of “America First”.
Criticism of President Trump's Saudi Arabia policy
Thereafter, Gabbard released a video in which she took the attack on US President Trump a step further. She alleged that the US President had offered the services of the US military to Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman. The Democratic Presidential candidate described Salman as the "dictator of the Islamist Kingdom of Saudi Arabia". Reiterating that she had never used hateful rhetoric against President Trump and his family, she maintained that his act was a "betrayal" of the Armed Forces. She described his action as "disgraceful" and opined that he was unfit to serve as the Commander-in-Chief.
The significance of the oath
Gabbard noted that as a member of the US Congress and a soldier, she and many others had taken an oath to protect the people and the Constitution of the US. She mentioned that there was no clause in the Constitution which allowed President Trump to declare war without the express consent of the US Congress. Thereafter, she reiterated that his words and actions were a "betrayal" of the American people and the Constitution.
Sharp critic
Gabbard is a war veteran, having served in the Iraq War and continues to be a part of the National Guard. A staunch critic of the interventionist wars fought by the US, she had vehemently criticized President Trump for withdrawing the country from the Iran nuclear deal. She had also castigated him in 2018 when he thanked Saudi Arabia for lowering the oil prices.
