Apple may roll out ChatGPT support, more Apple Intelligence features in December
According to a new report, Apple may roll out additional Apple Intelligence features and ChatGPT's integration into Siri during the December 2 week.
Apple 's first instance of Apple Intelligence tools, which came out last week with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, brought features such as Clean Up in Photos, a redesigned Siri, and Writing Tools for text improvement across the device. However, it still lacked several features Apple discussed at the WWDC this year. A new report has claimed Apple may roll out some -- or maybe all -- of those features in the first week of December.
That means Siri will get the ChatGPT integration and Apple Intelligence will add more features with the next iterations of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said the new features will be part of the iOS 18.2 update, which will likely arrive during the December 2 week, "barring any unexpected delays."
While Gurman hints at a potential uncertainty in the scheduled rollout, his information on the exact release day of iOS 18.1 turned out to be true.
iOS 18.2 will integrate ChatGPT into Siri, allowing users to ask complex questions from OpenAI's chatbot in case Apple's assistant cannot understand them. At the WWDC held in June, Apple announced collaboration with Microsoft-backed OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to its devices. It will also enable Siri to read the iPhone's screen and offer contextual answers to questions based on the screen content.
Apple will also likely roll out Genmoji functionality with iOS 18.2. It is a new way to create emojis by using a combination of two or more Unicode-based emojis, through textual or voice prompts, or even from gallery photos. The company said it has developed a specialised API for Genmoji at the WWDC. The eligible iPhone devices, including the latest iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, will get a new Visual Intelligence feature, which works similarly to Google Lens. iPhone users can point the camera at any object to learn more about it from AI-powered insights right on the screen.
The iOS 18.2 update will also add Image Wand and Image Playground functionalities, which are AI-powered tools to let users create images based on content and generate images from prompts, respectively.
