FASTag registration in India: Toll booths or toll plazas are frequent pit stop points within major cities and interconnecting highways in the country. Earlier, the mode of payment for the toll tax was cash or online payment. Later, in 2014, the FASTag was introduced by NHAI in the country. FASTag is a tag affixed to your vehicle, which allows an automatic deduction of toll charges.
It uses RFID technology to make toll payments from a prepaid account linked to it directly. It is affixed to your vehicle’s windscreen and enables more instantaneous toll stops. The tag issued by the bank is valid for five years. After it is bought, it only needs to be recharged or topped up according to requirements or travel plans.
Let us discuss the steps involved while registering for a new FASTag:
1. Gather required documents:
For applying for a new FASTag from the banks, the following documents are required for the registration process. The Registration Certificate (RC), KYC documents such as PAN Card, Aadhar Card, Driving License, and a passport-size photograph.
2. Choose your issuer:
For getting a new FASTag, there are several banks and issuing authorities from where it can be obtained. Research about it to find an issuer, which offers convenient recharge options and good customer service.
3. Register online or offline:
The FASTag can be applied in both, online and offline formats. For online application, it is applied through the official website of the FASTag provider. First, on the "Apply Online" button. Then fill out the registration form with the details. Upload the required documents for KYC and application. Then make all the necessary payments required, usually including a nominal fee and security deposit.
4. Activation and usage:
Once the registration process is completed, the FASTag will be activated and linked to the prepaid account. Ensure that there is sufficient balance in this account to avoid issues at toll plazas.
5. Top up the FASTag wallet:
The recharge of the FASTag can be done online through various methods. The recharge can be done via credit/debit cards, UPI, or net banking. Always make sure to keep a regular check of the balance to ensure smooth transactions during travels.
