Honda Cars India Recalls 92,000 old vehicles in India over faulty fuel pump

Recall by Honda India: Honda Cars India Limited has voluntarily recalled its 90,468 cars in India to replace a faulty fuel pump. According to the Japanese car manufacturer, the fuel pumps installed in affected vehicles may contain defective impellers that could, over time result in the engine stopping or not starting.

As per the campaign, it will additionally cover 2,204 old units, which have undergone this part change earlier as a spare part. The recall campaign from Honda Cars consists of all the major models, which are both new and discontinued. The affected models in this recall were manufactured from September 2017 to June 2018.

What is a faulty fuel pump?

A fuel pump is a vehicle’s crucial component that pumps fuel from the fuel tank into the engine of the vehicle. A faulty fuel pump in the car can lead to several issues such as difficulty in cranking, misfiring in the engine, loss in fuel efficiency, high engine temperature, and the car may stall at high engine temperatures.

Affected models:

Coming to the affected units under this recall, there are 18,851 units of the Amaze, 4,386 units of the BR-V, 3,317 units of the Brio, 16,744 units of the Jazz, 32,872 units of the City, 14,298 units of the WR-V are covered in this campaign. In addition to this, there are 2,204 units including the Amaze, Accord, Brio, City, Civic, Jazz, BR-V, and WR-V, where fuel pumps were already replaced as spare parts, are covered under this recall.

Beginning of the replacement and cost:

All the replacements of the affected part will be carried out at the Honda Cars India Limited dealerships across India and will be made free of cost. The campaign will be starting from November 5, 2024, in a phased manner, and the owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted directly.

How can the customers check about the recall:

All the customers can check if their vehicle is part of a recall or not by submitting their 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Honda’s website. Further, customers who may have bought the fuel pump assembly from the authorised dealerships between June 2017 to October 2023 through over-the-counter sales, also may check about the recall details of their vehicle through the Honda Cars dealership.
