Tata Technologies, BMW Group announce joint venture in India to launch BMW Techworks

Tata Technologies and BMW Group have launched their JV, BMW Techworks in India. Both, companies will have a 50-50 per cent share in this venture.

TATA-BMW JV: Tata Technologies and BMW Group have launched their joint venture (JV) BMW Techworks in India and signed the final contracts. Both, conglomerates will have a 50 percent share in this joint venture and it will help in the development of various technologies including software solutions for SDVs, automated driving, digital infotainment, and automotive digital services.

“Our joint venture with the BMW Group, BMW TechWorks India, underscores our deep expertise in software-defined vehicles and reflects our commitment to driving innovation in both automotive software and business IT," Warren Harris, CEO and MD of Tata Technologies said on the occasion.

Nachiket Paranjpe, President of Automotive Sales at Tata Technologies, commented: “The rapid evolution of automotive technology is transforming the way vehicles are developed, with software-defined vehicles at the forefront of this shift.

BMW TechWorks India: Key developments

The establishment of BMW Techwork will focus on different avenues including the development of software solutions for self-driving vehicles, automated driving, digital infotainment, and automotive digital services. The joint venture will also provide digital innovations for the BMW Group’s Business IT.

Another key area of focus for this joint venture will be the development of AI applications and platforms, which the two companies say will increase the efficiency of all core business processes. The JV will also focus on improving the digital customer journey and sales processes for both the companies.

 

BMW TechWorks India: Number of employees in the initial phase

The joint venture between Tata Technologies and BMW Group will commence with 100 employees in the initial period. The venture aims to scale rapidly and targets a four-digit workforce by the end of 2025.

 

BMW TechWorks India: Hubs for development

In the initial phase, BMW Techworks will be in the key technology hubs of India, which are Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune.

It is worth noting that this development comes shortly after FADA (Federation of Automotive Dealers Association) released the sales data for September 2024. According to the data shared by the regulatory body, the BMW Group India registered total sales of 1,011 units in September 2024. The company fell short of 164 units as compared to September 2023 and registered a decline of 16.22 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
