The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Friday that Tesla is initiating a recall of 120,423 vehicles in the United States due to potential issues with cabin door locks that could become unlocked during a collision. The regulatory body confirmed that Tesla has already deployed an over-the-air (OTA) software update to mitigate this safety concern.

Specifically, the recall impacts Model S and Model X vehicles spanning the 2021-2023 model years. The NHTSA indicated that these particular units do not meet specific federal safety standards related to side-impact protection.

This recent announcement follows closely on the heels of Tesla's largest-ever US recall last week, encompassing over 2 million vehicles. The previous recall was prompted by the need to implement enhanced safety measures within Tesla's Autopilot advanced driver-assistance system, as highlighted by safety concerns raised by federal regulators.
