Tesla in Sweden: Despite facing challenges from union actions affecting imports, Tesla recorded a 9 per cent year-on-year growth in new car registrations in Sweden for December, according to data from the Swedish auto industry association, Mobility Sweden. The figures revealed that 1,789 new Tesla vehicles were registered in December 2023, compared to 1,645 registrations in the same period the previous year. Concurrently, Tesla's market share in Sweden rose to 6.1 per cent from 4.6 per cent.
The uptick in Tesla registrations occurs amid ongoing union actions in the Nordic region. IF Metall, a Swedish union, initiated strikes in October, advocating for a collective agreement that encompasses wages and other employment conditions at Tesla.

Additionally, sympathetic actions by dock workers in Sweden and Denmark have temporarily halted the unloading and transportation of Tesla vehicles destined for the Swedish market.

In a broader context, Tesla's Model Y emerged as the best-selling car in Sweden for the entire year of 2023, with 16,412 new registrations. This positioned it ahead of Volvo's XC40, which secured 13,606 registrations throughout the year.
However, by December's conclusion, the Model Y slipped to the fourth position, recording 1,098 new registrations, trailing behind the XC40, which registered 1,967 new cars during the same period.
