A total of 50 delivery executives from Zomato have resigned in Kolkata amidst ongoing India-China crisis. delivery executives of Gurugram-hequartered food delivery application have been protesting over firm having investment from China since Saturday in Kolkata. delivery executives in Kolkata, burnt ir Zomato T-shirts, as a mark of protest against Chinese investment. protesters even claimed that y h quit startup as it has investors from China.

"Have been associated with Zomato for a long time w, even during Coronavirus lockdown, took risk of my life and delivered food. But t anymore. I don't even use a bike but a cycle, this job is that important for me, but won't give my blood and sweat to Chinese investor!", lashed out Suraj Pandey, who has been working with Zomato in Kolkata's Behala area.

Chinese investment in Zomato

In October 2018, Zomato raised $210 million from Alibaba's payment affiliate Ant Financial. Ant Financial received an ownership stake of over 10% of company as part of round, which valued Zomato at around $2 billion. Zomato h also raised an ditional $150 million also from Ant Financial earlier in 2018. delivery executives h an issue over a Chinese investment making massive returns from an Indian organization, at a time when Indian army lost 20 heroes in ongoing border crisis with China. protestors are of opinion that business and warfare which harms nation cant happen simultaneously, hence y urge customers t to order from or use application but use or applications. parent organization, Zomato, has t come up with any statement on issue of continuing investment from a Chinese firm, or protest by its own employees.

"We do t have any issue with Zomato, but investment from Alibaba. If Zomato decides to kick out that Chinese investment and use some Indian investors, why won't we work with m? It is t an easy step for us to just leave organization, but we are doing it." said Sunny, ar delivery executive.
