The project was known as the 'People's Car Project,' which was in German translated to ‘Volks,’ which meant folk or people in general, and ‘Wagen’ which meant car. This is how one of today's biggest car companies got its name. Volkswagen today owns car brands like Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, and many others under its umbrella.
