Tata Motors is set to launch the Punch EV in late October this year. Positioned between the Tiago EV and Nexon EV, the Punch EV is aimed squarely at competing with the Citroen eC3 in the market.
The Punch EV will slot in below the lower-spec variant of the Nexon EV but above the Tiago EV hatchback. The Punch EV is intended to serve as an SUV alternative to the Tigor EV sedan, which is increasingly popular in its X-Press T fleet form.
Powertrain and features
The Tata Punch EV will feature the Ziptron powertrain and is likely to be the first Tata EV with a charging socket on the bumper. It is expected to come with four-wheel disc brakes, distinctive alloy wheel designs, and EV-specific styling updates to differentiate it from its petrol counterpart. Inside, there will be some cosmetic enhancements, including the new two-spoke steering wheel seen in the Nexon facelift. There is potential for the Punch EV to offer the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system available in the Nexon.
The Punch EV will be built on the ALFA platform with Tata's second-generation EV architecture. It will feature a liquid-cooled battery and a permanent magnet-synchronous motor powering the front wheels. Similar to other Tata EV models like the Tigor, Tiago, and Nexon, the Punch EV may come with various battery sizes and charging options.
Pricing
The Tata Punch EV will compete with the Citroen eC3, which is priced between Rs 11.50 and 12.43 lakh. Tata Motors aims to position the Punch EV as a viable SUV alternative to the Tigor EV, which is priced between Rs 12.49 and Rs 13.75 lakh. More details about the Punch EV are expected to be unveiled as the launch date approaches.
