FM meets President: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday ahead of presenting the full Budget for 2024-25. Following tradition, the meeting took place at Rashtrapati Bhavan prior to Sitharaman’s address to Parliament.

President Murmu offered Sitharaman 'dahi-chini' (curd-sugar), a customary gesture considered auspicious, before she departed for Parliament to present the Union Budget. Subsequently, the Union Cabinet convened to clear the Budget.

Before the Budget presentation in Parliament, the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will approve the Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 (April 2024 to March 2025).

Expectations are high as Sitharaman presents her seventh Budget in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The Budget will reflect the Modi government's achievements over the past decade and outline the path to making India a developed nation by 2047. Continuing the tradition she began in 2019, Sitharaman carried the Budget speech in a 'bahi-khata' (ledger), which replaced the briefcase. She also carries a digital tablet in a red 'bahi-khata' style pouch.
