EaseMyTrip, the travel booking platform, has announced plans to hire over 500 interns across India within the next 3-6 months.

This move supports the government's newly proposed internship scheme outlined by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget for 2024-25.

The internships, which will be paid, will span various departments including sales and marketing, as well as back-end customer care, according to EaseMyTrip Chief Executive Officer Nishant Pitti.

In her budget address, Sitharaman proposed a scheme aimed at creating internship opportunities for 1 crore young people over five years at 500 top companies. The scheme includes an internship allowance of Rs 5,000 per month and a one-time assistance of Rs 6,000. Companies participating in the scheme will cover the training costs through their corporate social responsibility budgets.

Pitti noted that the new scheme has made it financially feasible and operationally easier for EaseMyTrip to expand its internship programme. The company recently opened a new office in Gurugram, further supporting its ability to onboard a large number of interns.

He added that EaseMyTrip, which currently employs around 900 people, anticipates integrating the interns into various roles across the company after their internships.

Pitti also highlighted that EaseMyTrip is among the few profitable companies in the business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce sector and has been consistently profitable since its inception 16 years ago.
