The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) has recommended that the government should engage state-owned fertilizer marketing companies to ensure the off-take of fermented organic manure (FOM) to bolster the sector.
IBA Chairman Gaurav Kedia stated, "The current production of FOM in the country is approximately one million metric tonnes per annum (MMTA). With the addition of new and upcoming 570 plants, this capacity has the potential to increase to 7 MMTA, which could meet the fertiliser demand of a state like Rajasthan."

Kedia highlighted that according to the latest data, there are around 97 functional compressed biogas (CBG) plants in India, each producing an average of 7.5 tonnes per day (TPD) of CBG and 30 TPD of FOM.
The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) recommendation that the government should engage state-owned fertilizer marketing companies to ensure the off-take of fermented organic manure (FOM) to bolster the sector has come just ahead of the Union Budget 2024-25 and is a crucial demand.
