High-tech security measures to safeguard India’s 78th Independence Day celebrations

To boost security, Delhi Police has integrated advanced technology, including numerous CCTV cameras and specialised cameras linked with DFMDs.

Security on Independence DayPrime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hoist the national flag and deliver the Independence Day address from the Red Fort on Thursday, August 15. In preparation for the event, Delhi Police have drastically heightened security measures around the historic site. Personnel have been strategically deployed, and bomb disposal units, assisted by sniffer dogs, are conducting thorough inspections of the surrounding areas.

To boost security, Delhi Police has integrated advanced technology, including numerous CCTV cameras and specialised cameras linked with Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs).

The systems are connected to facial recognition technology, enabling the identification and verification of individuals entering the Red Fort for the Independence Day celebrations.

Additionally, Delhi Police, supported by Border Security Force personnel, are patrolling the Yamuna River, monitoring the area with binoculars to maintain vigilance.

Security has also been stepped up in Punjab. Bathinda SSP Amneet Kondal as the need for increased alertness during significant national events has become a mandate, noting that Bathinda Police are implementing daily security measures and have conducted flag marches in sensitive areas.

In Jammu and Kashmir, security has been intensified in Samba district ahead of the 78th Independence Day. A special checkpoint has been established on the Batote-Doda highway, and a joint operation by the Indian Army and J&K Police is ongoing in the Akar Forest area near Patnitop. Contact has been made with terrorist groups, and efforts to neutralise the threat are continuing.

Mumbai Police have also increased vehicle checks and are maintaining high vigilance across the city. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, additional police personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas. ADCP Noida, Manish Mishra, confirmed that police are stationed at key locations, with rigorous inspections of suspicious vehicles being conducted.
