Uddhav govt warns Ramdev over Patanjali's Coronil; won't allow sale till clinically proven

Amid the ongoing controversy over Baba Ramdev's company Patanjali Ayurveda introducing "cure" for coronavirus, the Maharashtra government has issued a warning.

Amid ongoing controversy over Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's company Patanjali Ayurved introducing a self-touted "cure" for coronavirus infection, Maharashtra government has said that it will not allow sale of "spurious medicines" in state unless National Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur finds out wher clinical trials of 'Coronil' were done at all. 

Maharashtra Home Minister on his Twitter on Wednesday fired, "An abundant warning to Baba Ramdev that Maharashtra won't allow sale of spurious medicines."

U'khand dept to serve notice to Patanjali 

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand government is serving a notice to Patanjali Ayurved for launching a drug claiming to be a cure for COVID-19 when it h only applied for a licence to manufacture an immunity booster against cough and fever, an official said on Wednesday.

revelation from state comes even as AYUSH ministry at Centre prepares to examine herbal products company's documents on research and composition of drug developed by it. Union Minister Shrip Naik said Patanjali coming with medicine was a "good initiative" but due process has to be followed.

Hours after launch of Coronil on Tuesday, Union AYUSH Ministry h asked firm to provide details, telling it to stop vertising it till issue is examined.

'Such an initiative is definitely good'

Naik said Patanjali Ayurved has submitted documents. " reports which were sent to ministry on Tuesday will be examined," he said. "At a time when everybody is grappling for a cure for COVID-19, such an initiative is definitely good but n due process has to be followed," minister said.

Uttarakhand's Ayurved department's licence officer Y S Rawat said notice is being issued to firm to explain from where it got permission to launch a "corona kit" as a cure for virus. "Patanjali Ayurved Ltd h licence only for manufacturing an immunity booster against cough and fever. re was nothing in ir application related to treatment of coronavirus," official said.

At Coronil launch, company h claimed that its medicine can cure contagious disease within seven days. It said Coronil, taken along with anor product developed by it, h shown a 100% success rate in clinical trials on infected patients, except those on life support.

Ramdev said medicines were developed by Patanjali Research Center, Haridwar in association with privately-owned National Institute of Medical Science, Jaipur.
