Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the historic Red Fort today, marking the 78th Independence Day. In his speech, he stressed on the country’s remarkable progress in various sectors and laid out a vision for a prosperous and developed India by 2047, calling it "Viksit Bharat 2047".
"Today, I am happy that 'Vocal for Local' has transformed into a new mantra for our economic system," the Prime Minister said. He highlighted the success of the "One District One Product" initiative, noting that districts across the country have begun taking pride in their unique local products, contributing to a stronger local economy.
Addressing the need for continuous reforms, PM Modi remarked, "Some people question why we should work for future generations. However, many across the country have long awaited significant reforms. When we came to power, we made the decision to advance major reforms aimed at transforming lives. These reforms are not merely for temporary attention; they are designed to strengthen the nation."
Reflecting on the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, PM Modi praised India's swift response in administering vaccines to millions of citizens. "Our country administered vaccines to crores of people the fastest in the world," he said, underscoring the resilience and capability of India in times of crisis.
On national security, the Prime Minister mentioned India's strong stance against terrorism. "This is the same country where terrorists used to come and attack us. When the armed forces of the country execute surgical strikes and airstrikes, the youth of the country are filled with pride," he asserted, highlighting the nation's proactive measures in ensuring safety and security.
Stressing on women’s empowerment, PM Modi highlighted the significant contributions of women to the country’s development. "Today there are over 10 crore women who are part of women self-help groups. Women are getting land and homes registered in their names, making them lakhpati didis. They are taking loans via Mudra loans and are setting up businesses and startups," he said. This, according to the Prime Minister, marks a proud moment for every Indian as women from humble backgrounds are taking the lead in advancing the nation.
PM Modi also spoke about the country’s youth, whom he described as not wanting to "go slow." He described this period as India's "golden era," attributing it to the country's advancements in space technology, infrastructure modernization, and the ease of living.
