Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first-ever telecom standard conference organised by the UN's International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in India, along with the India Mobile Congress (IMC), on October 15, 2024.

The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) conference, which occurs every four years, plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of communication technologies through its recommendations and proposals.

In an official note, the ITU confirmed, "ITU is excited to announce that WTSA-24 will be inaugurated by His Excellency, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi , on Tuesday 15 October 2024."

The India Mobile Congress , backed by the telecom department, is in its eighth edition and will run concurrently with WTSA 2024. This year's IMC has seen a significant increase in international participation, nearly doubling compared to last year.

Ramakrishna P, CEO of IMC, stated, "This time IMC is set to be bigger and better, with global participation from over 120 countries, solidifying IMC's position as Asia's largest technology expo and a major force in global digital transformation. Countries like the UK, Japan, Sweden, and Finland are increasing their engagement in this edition."

IMC 2024 is expected to feature more than 400 exhibitors and nearly 900 startups, attracting participants from across the globe. Last year, the event saw participation from over 230 exhibitors, 400 startups, and around 67 countries.

Under the theme "Future is Now," the conference will cover a range of topics including quantum technology, circular economy, and advancements in 6G and 5G technologies, as well as cloud and edge computing, IoT, semiconductors, satellite communications, and electronics manufacturing.
