India to Commission New Naval Base INS Jatayu in Lakshadweep

The Indian Navy is reportedly planning to conduct twin carrier operations near Lakshadweep for the first time.

Agatti: Indian Navy is gearing up to commission a new naval base, INS Jatayu, in Minicoy Islands of Lakshweep. Scheduled for inauguration next week, this development has alrey been perceived by experts as a strategic move to strengn nation's position in Indian Ocean Region (IOR), thus increasing  maritime capabilities and its defence infrastructure.

Furr, an ANI report, citing Defense officials, said that  commissioning of INS Jatayu underlines Navy's intention to grow its operational reach and surveillance capabilities in region. With its proximity to Maldives—approximately 50 miles away—INS Jatayu will serve as a vital vantage point for monitoring both military and commercial activities of potential versaries in area, reports ded.

INS Jatayu to Have vanced Facilities Like Navy’s Baaz: Reports

base, initially manned by a small contingent of officers and personnel, following Center's intention to mirror blueprint of INS Baaz in Andaman Islands, will now see future expansion. Impending Rotor copter Upgre

Furrmore, Navy also intends to modernise its rotor copter fleet; induction of MH-60 Romeo multirole helicopters is a step in that direction. multirole helicopter will be commissioned in a formal ceremony that will take place in Kochi.

MH-60R, as per reports, will help navy with its reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.

upcoming week will also witness key inaugurations, including unveiling of naval war college buildings in Goa and inauguration of facilities in Karwar, furr augmenting Navy's training and operational infrastructure.
