Gujarat, India – The Indian Army is set to conduct Exercise Sanyukt Vimochan 2024, a joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise, on November 18 and 19, in Gujarat. Representatives from nine friendly foreign countries, alongside the Indian Armed Forces, Indian Coast Guard, and multiple Central and State agencies, will participate in this event aimed at enhancing disaster management capabilities.

Exercise Sanyukt Vimochan is an annual initiative by the Indian Army to foster collaborative disaster response strategies. The 2024 edition will see participation from Sri Lanka, Vietnam, UAE, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Maldives, and Malaysia, furthering international cooperation in disaster management. The event will include a Table Top Exercise, a live demonstration of joint disaster response efforts, and an industrial exhibition of indigenous HADR equipment.

The Indian Army announced the details of the exercise through the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI) on social media platform X. “The exercise will unite varied forces to tackle natural disasters, assess efficiency in response measures, and optimise disaster management frameworks,” the post read.

Upto 100 countries to Observe the Exercise

Representatives from approximately 100 countries, including Gulf Cooperation Council and Indian Ocean Region nations, will observe the exercise, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration. The event will include an industrial equipment display, offering a platform to showcase India’s indigenously developed defence and HADR equipment to visiting nations, with an aim to explore potential export opportunities.

The exercise will serve as a platform for participants to share best practices, gain expertise, and collectively enhance disaster preparedness mechanisms. The exercise aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to promote disaster resilience globally. Initiatives such as the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit, underscore India’s commitment to building robust infrastructure capable of withstanding climate and disaster risks.

CDRI’s multilateral approach involves partnerships with national governments, UN agencies, multilateral development banks, and private stakeholders. This initiative resonates with India’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on creating resilient systems that ensure prosperity and sustainability.

Building a Disaster-Resilient Future

Exercise Sanyukt Vimochan 2024 is a testament to India’s proactive stance in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters. By integrating cutting-edge technology, fostering international cooperation, and leveraging indigenous capabilities, the Indian Army is setting a benchmark in disaster management and resilience.

As the world grapples with the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters, collaborative efforts like Sanyukt Vimochan serve as a beacon of hope, ensuring preparedness and swift response to safeguard lives and infrastructure globally.
