Indian Army Establishes World's Highest Tank Maintenance Facilities in Eastern Ladakh

The Indian Army establishes two tank repair facilities at over 14,500 feet in Eastern Ladakh, a strategic move to maintain operational readiness at the LAC.

Lakh: In a strategic move, Indian Army has set up two tank repair facilities at unprecedented altitudes in Eastern Lakh, signaling a new chapter in military logistics and operations. se facilities, located near China border in Nyoma and DBO Sector, stand at over 14,500 feet, marking m as world's highest tank repair centers along Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Lakh. 

Amid ongoing standoff with China since April-May 2020, Indian Army has deployed more than 500 tanks and infantry combat vehicles in Eastern Lakh, facing logistical hurdles in maintaining and repairing se assets in remote, high-altitude regions. Retrieving vehicles for maintenance and repair in such extreme environments posed significant challenges due to harsh terrain and verse wear conditions.

Strategic Establishment of Maintenance Facilities 

To overcome se challenges and ensure operational reiness of armored vehicles, Indian Army has strategically established Medium Maintenance (Reset) Facilities in Nyoma and near KM-148 on DS-DBO Ro in DBO sector. se facilities serve as critical hubs for tank and Infantry Combat Vehicle (ICV) operations, supporting frontline units stationed in Eastern Lakh.

Response to Ongoing Standoff and Border Security Challenges 

Army Chief General Manoj Pande recently visited one of se facilities, acknowledging significance of maintaining combat fleet operational reiness in rugged terrain and extreme wear conditions. deployment of specialist technical support infrastructure forward for Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs) has been instrumental in sustaining operations and countering versities posed by challenging terrain and harsh wear.

standoff between India and China in eastern Lakh region, ongoing for past four years, has necessitated deployment of significant troop contingents and military assets near borders. In response to unilateral actions by China to change status quo along LAC, Indian Army demonstrated its agility and resolve by swiftly mobilizing heavy armored elements to safeguard national interests.
