Fake Indian currency notes rose by 31% in 2020-21: RBI report; How to detect fake notes

RBI's annual report 2020-2021 has mentioned that compared to previous year, there was an increase of 31.3 per cent in counterfeit notes detected in Rs. 500.

annual report by  Reserve Bank of India (RBI), on Saturday, showed that re was an increase of 31.3 per cent in counterfeit tes detected in demination of new Rs 500 tes as compared to  previous year. RBI's report furr stated that 'during 2020-21, out of total Fake Indian Currency tes (FICNs) detected in banking sector, 3.9 per cent were detected at Reserve Bank and 96.1 per cent by or banks'. Government h introduced new Mahatma Gandhi series tes of Rs 500 demonisation to replace old ones in vember 2016.

" total expenditure in curred on security printing during July 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021 was `4,012.1 crore as against `4,377.8 crore in previous year (July 2019 to June 2020)," mentioned RBI report.

central bank, however, mentioned that counterfeit banktes of Rs 500 demination were found to be gaining currency.

  • Portrait of Mahatma Gandhi emerges in watermark section. 

  • On top left side and bottom right side of te number panel with numerals appear growing from small to big (in ascending font).

  • On bottom right side, demination in numerals with Rupee Symbol '₹500' appear in colour changing ink (green to blue).
