'Engineering marvel': Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde launches 1st phase of Mumbai coastal road

The coastal road, once fully operational, will seamlessly integrate with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and extend up to Dahisar, covering a total span of 53 km.

Mumbai coastal ro inauguration: Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated first phase of Mumbai coastal ro project on Monday, spanning stretch between Worli and Marine Drive in south Mumbai, hailing it as an "engineering marvel." initial phase, covering a 10.5-kilometer-long corridor, marks a significant milestone in ambitious project aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity along Mumbai's coastline.

inauguration ceremony witnessed presence of Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fnavis and Ajit Pawar, alongside or dignitaries. event was marked by unveiling of electric buses operated by Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), dedicated to ferrying women, and a vintage car rally that traversed newly inaugurated coastal ro.

Commencing construction on October 13, 2018, project carries a hefty price tag of Rs 12,721 crore. coastal ro, officially named 'Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Ro,' incorporates cutting-edge technology and design principles, earning acclaim as a marvel of modern engineering.

Ensuring utmost safety measures, Chief Minister Shinde assured public of ro's secure infrastructure, with plans to open second phase to traffic by May. coastal ro, once fully operational, will seamlessly integrate with Bandra-Worli Sea Link and extend up to Dahisar, covering a total span of 53 kilometers.

With aim of promoting green initiatives, project includes development of a world-class Central Park spanning approximately 300 acres, offering a lush green respite within bustling metropolis. Notably, coastal ro pays homage to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with plans for a statue in Worli commemorating Maratha warrior king's legacy.

dressing past hurdles, Chief Minister Shinde underscored challenges faced during project's progression, subtly referencing impediments encountered under previous ministration. Deputy Chief Minister Fnavis echoed similar sentiments, highlighting coastal ro's significance while dressing concerns regarding its development.

In dition to coastal ro project, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has allocated Rs 500 crore in its budget for development of Siddhivinayak Temple area in Mumbai. Chief Minister Shinde emphasised plans for meticulous planning and execution, with a focus on appointing expert architects to oversee project's implementation, drawing parallels to successful urban development initiatives elsewhere in country.
