BHU students oppose UGC guidelines on university exams, call for cancellation

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) students are flooding social media platforms with hashtag #BHUExamInCovid, opposing guidelines put forth by University Grants Commission (UGC) for universities to conduct examinations by September 2020. students of BHU are t only calling for cancellations of exams amid COVID-19 pandemic but have been raising ir concerns with growing number of coronavirus cases in nation. Many students also condemned decision made by BHU to adhere to UGC guidelines. From making memes to posing serious questions on students being exposed to virus, thousands of Twitter users voiced ir opinion.

UGC guidelines
UGC had issued guidelines on April 26 and July 6 that asked all universities and educational institutions to conduct examinations by September end. Commission’s guidelines came after Union Ministry of Home Affairs allowed exams to be conducted by universities. Thus, in a bid to ensure health safety of student and teachers, UGC has issued a list of precautionary measures while also keeping in mind relevance of exams.
Commission said, “All universities/institutions in country are obligated to conduct final year examination by end of September 2020”. If a student due to any reason fails to appear for examinations, specific candidate is allowed to take exams later. guidelines by UGC provided flexible modes for conducting exams, wher online or offline or mixed. On April 27, Commission had instructed all educational institutes and universities to conduct exams.
