BIG: Maharashtra Legislative houses pass SEBC act 2018 (amendment) paving way for 16% Maratha reservation for students in PG Medical Admission

In a major move supporting Maratha reservation, Maharashtra Legislative State Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) and State Legislative Council (Vidhan Parish), on Friday have passed an Amendment in SEBC Act 2018 (Socially Ecomically Backward Class) in which students of Maratha community in PG Medical mission will get 16% reservation.
state h introduced an ordinance earlier which has been w converted into a bill clearing way for Maratha reservation in mission in state's private and government educational institutions for undergruate and Post-gruate courses and appointments in public services. amendment nullifies apex court's order of t implementing act in current acemic year.

amended Bill states:
Clause (a) of sub-section 4 of said Act, provides that, twithstanding any contained in any judgement, decree or order of any court or or authority, and subject to or provisions of said Act, 16% of total seats in educational institutions including private wher aided or n aided, or than mirity educational institutions referred to in clauses (1) of article 30 of Indian constitution shall be separately reserved for SEBC including Maratha community.

In direct contrast, Supreme Court's order on June 4, h barred state from implementing act in current acemic year's missions and h restrained any or courts from entertaining any plea related to mission to PG medical courses.

Furrmore, in tune with apex court's judgement, state's Nagpur bench of Bombay High court refused to entertain petition challenging Maharashtra State Reservation Ordinance, 2019.
Earlier on Wednesday, Supreme Court sought a response from Maharashtra government on a plea challenging an order of Bombay High Court dismissing a petition against 16 percent quota for Marathas in mission to PG medical and dental courses. top court said it will hear on June 24 plea challenging Maharashtra government's decision to grant Maratha reservation for missions in PG medical courses. A bench of justices Deepak Gupta and Surya Kant said it cant leave petitioners remedy less as eir high court or Supreme Court has to judicate issue.
