Palghar: Schools in Pune city, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the western parts of the district have been shut today due to heavy rainfall and predictions of more showers by the Weather Department. This decision comes as a protective measure against potential hazards posed by the inclement weather.

Schools Closed in Palghar 

Meanwhile, in response to an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), all schools and colleges in Palghar district have been closed for the day (Thursday), as per an announcement from the Palghar Collector's Office. This precautionary measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of students and staff amid the forecast of severe weather conditions.

Over the past 24 hours, ending at 7:30 am today, the district has experienced substantial rainfall: Lonavla received 300 mm, Lavasa 417 mm, and Junnar 214 mm, according to data shared by the district administration.

Pune Rain: Several Parts of Pune Waterlogged 

District Collector Suhas Diwase issued an order declaring a holiday for all primary and secondary schools in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Maval, Mulshi, Bhor, Velha, Khed, Ambegaon, Junnar, and Haveli. This decision affects a wide range of educational institutions, ensuring the safety of numerous students and staff members. Several parts of Pune, especially the low-lying areas are waterlogged after heavy rainfall.

"We have deployed fire brigade and disaster management cell manpower in low-lying areas. People have been advised not to step out unless it is absolutely necessary," said Diwase, emphasizing the importance of taking precautions during this period of heavy rainfall.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar on Thursday reviewed the situation at Pune district headquarters following heavy rainfall. He discussed relief measures with the District Collector and Disaster Management chief and instructed authorities to assist those affected, particularly in Khadakwasla and Pimpri Chinchwad. Due to heavy rainfall, Khadakwasla Dam is at full capacity. Pune officials will release 11,556 cusecs of water into the Mutha River from 11:30 PM. Residents along the riverbanks are advised to stay alert and take precautions.
