Cabinet approves NRA; CET to screen candidates at first level for SSC, RRBs and IBPS

Union Cabinet on Wednesday, August 19, approved setting up of 'National Recruitment ncy' to conduct Common Eligibility Test. Referring to this significant reform in recruitment process for central government jobs, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said it is one of most landmark reforms in independent India.

NRA, a multi-ncy body, will include first-level test by Staff Selection Commission (SSC), Institute of Banking Service Personnel (IBPS) and Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

1000 centres, one in each district will be set up
"At least 1000 centres, one in each district will be set up, where candidates can take test. measure will immensely help candidates from far flung and hilly areas and particularly girl candidates, besides saving ir valuable time and resources. NRA will come into force from next year and will be hequartered in Delhi. State governments will also be vised to come on board in a true spirit of cooperative federalism," he said.
Two tests per year under NRA

Apart from Hindi and English, tests will be conducted in 12 langus in due course and efforts will be me to include all langus mentioned in Eighth Schedule of Constitution. re will be restriction on number of attempts to be taken by a candidate to appear in CET subject to upper limit, union minister said. Furrmore, CET score of candidate shall be valid for a period of three years from date of declaration of result. best of valid scores shall be considered to be current score of candidate.

Centre Sanctions Rs 1517.57 crore for NRA
According to an official release central government has sanctioned a sum of Rs. 1517.57 crore for NRA. expenditure will be undertaken over a period of three years. Besides setting up NRA, costs will be incurred for setting up examination infrastructure in 117 aspirational districts. benefits in terms of cost, effort, safety and much more would be immense, release informed.
release furr said that Common Eligibility Test (CET) will screen/shortlist candidates for Group B and C (n-technical) posts.

"NRA will have representatives of Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Finance/Department of Financial Services, SSC, RRB and IBPS. It is envisioned that NRA would be a specialist body bringing state-of--art techlogy and best practices to field of Central Government recruitment," release said.
release furr stated that on aver, 2.5 crore to 3 crore candidates appear in recruitment examinations for various government posts. It said candidates have to appear in multiple examinations conducted by multiple ncies.
Apart from examination fees, candidates have to incur ditional expenses for travel, boarding, lodging and or such.
Common Eligibility Test will enable se candidates to appear once and apply to any or all of se recruitment ncies for higher level of examination and it would lessen financial burden on candidates to a large extent, release stated.

NRA shall conduct a separate CET for all three levels
NRA shall conduct a separate CET each for three levels of gruate, higher secondary that is 12th pass and matriculate that is 10th pass candidates for those n-technical posts to which recruitment is presently carried out by SSC, RRBs and by IBPS.
"Based on screening done at CET score level, final selection for recruitment shall be me through separate specialised Tiers (II, III etc) of examination which shall be conducted by respective recruitment ncies. curriculum for this test would be common as would be standard," it said.
Furrmore, candidates would have facility of registering on a common portal and give a choice of Centres. Based on availability, y would be allotted Centres. ultimate aim is to reach a st wherein candidates can schedule ir own tests at Centres of ir choice, release said. Information and Brocasting Minister Prakash Javekar hailed decision and said it will benefit job seeking youth of country.
