West Bengal government has decided to introduce a chapter on snakes in secondary school curriculum from next acemic year, a senior education official said. This will educate students about different s of snakes, what one should do at sight of reptile and ir role in protecting bio-diversity, he said.  chapter, comprising details about vemous and n-vemous snakes, ir Latin and common names and how one should react after sighting a snake in neighbourhood or in bushes, will be introduced in Life Science subject of class eight, Chairman of Syllabus Committee Abhik Majumder told PTI here on Monday.

Students to have chapter on snakes

A draft of curriculum has been prepared with  guidance of doctors from state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, he said. "We think introducing a chapter on snakes will serve  purpose of educating students and ir parents about  different s of snakes, role of snakes in protecting our bio-diversity, and preventive measures to stop killing of reptiles, including vemous ones," Majumder said.

Move to increase awareness on conservation

UP cop becomes snake charmer to capture reptile

A policeman became centre of attraction after he was caught on camera playing a Pungi (snake-charmer's instrument) to rescue a snake which h crawled inside a police station in Bijr, Uttar Presh. After snake was found inside station, police officials called snake charmers. As snake charmers were trying to get hold of reptile, policeman, to everyone's surprise, started playing Pungi. In video, officer dressed in Khakhi pants and shirt can be seen fluently playing 'Pungi' with full energy and pauses. A couple of or cops present at spot were seen filming entire episode.
