DUSU Polls 2024 Tomorrow, Classes Suspended; Know How 1st Year DU Students Without ID Card Can Vote

DUSU Polls 2024: Delhi University will conduct the DU Student Union polls 2024 tomorrow, September 27. Students who wish to cast their vote will have to carry their DU Identity card to the polling booth. However, the newly enrolled students of first-year who have not received their ID cards from the university will have to carry a set of documents to cast their votes. 

DUSU Polls: How 1st-Year DU Students Can Vote Without ID Card

The chief election officer, DUSU Elections 2024, has advised all colleges, departments, and institutions to issue identity cards to all students. However, the 1st year students who are eligible and have not been issued ID cards would be allowed to vote if they produce a duly verified fee receipt along with any of the following IDs: 

1. Voter ID Card
2. Aadhaar Card
3. Pan Card
4. Driving License

“Further, this is also to inform that the students who got admission to respective Colleges/Departments/Institutions till 25th September 2024 (05:00 PM) would be valid voters to cast the vote in DUSU Elections 2024- 25,” the official notice reads.

In other news, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday expressed dismay over the defacement of public property during the DUSU elections. The court said that VC should take strict action and annul the polls or defer them till all the defacement is removed. 

“In view of the hearing of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi on the issue of defacement by the candidates, Colleges/Departments/Institutions holding the DUSU Elections 2024-25 and local election are hereby advised that the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and NGT orders relating to the Defacement of public property and other rules and regulations must be strictly adhered by all the candidates. The Hon’ble High Court of Delhi is seriously concerned on the non-compliance of Lyngdoh Committee recommendation and NGT orders. If the defacement of public property is being observed and the rules of Lyngdoh Committee are violated, the Colleges/Departments/Institutions are required to take strict action against the candidates,” the official notice issued on Thursday read.
