EWS certificates valid only for educational institutions, central govt jobs: TN Govt to HC

The Tamil Nadu govt told HC that EWS certificates issued by the state can only be availed to seek jobs or admissions under central government and institutions.

Tamil Nu government on July 23 told Mras High Court that Ecomically Weaker Section (EWS) certificates issued by state can only be availed to seek jobs or missions under central government and institutions. State vocate-General Vijay Narayan during an online court hearing informed bench that it is up to central government to clarify wher EWS certificates issued by state government will be valid in or states or t. bench was hearing petitions filed by Brahmin Association and or forward caste groups over an instruction issued by state government on June 4 asking Revenue department to immediately halt issuing of EWS certificates.

'Clarify by July 30'

bench of Justices M M Sundresh and R Hemalatha questioned vocate-General as to why EWS certificates issued by state government can be availed only to apply for jobs and missions under central government and institutions. As per reports, AG h told court that certificates are issued with recommendations as per memorandum of central government. AG also ded that June 4 instruction was issued as former commissioner of revenue department decided to issue certificates without consulting state government. bench asked AG Vijay Narayan to clarify this with state government and file a detailed affidavit by July 30.

Meanwhile, vocates for petitioners while talking to press said that such conditions will make it impossible for EWS candidates to avail job or mission in private institutions despite amendment clearly stating that even private institutions can decide to provide 10 percent EWS quota if y desire to do so.
