Narasaraopet: A video showing students brutally assaulting their juniors at a private college in Narasaraopet, Andhra Pradesh, has gone viral, leading the police to register a case and launch an investigation. The video, shot in February at the hostel of Sri Subbaraya and Narayana College, depicts severe ragging incidents that have shocked viewers and sparked widespread outrage.

The footage shows juniors being summoned to the hostel under the guise of National Cadet Corps (NCC) training. Once inside, they are subjected to brutal beatings with sticks by a group of seniors. The seniors are seen laughing and encouraging each other as the juniors plead for mercy, highlighting the severity and cruelty of the ragging.

Upon the video's circulation, police swiftly initiated an investigation into the incident. A case has been registered under various sections of the Prohibition of Ragging Act, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter.

CI Chintala Krishna Reddy of One Town Police Station provided details on the case, stating, "The incident occurred on February 2 this year. The students involved have since graduated. We have registered a case against them and will take stern action." Reddy emphasized that ragging is a punishable offense and urged students to report such incidents to college management and police immediately to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The incident has not only drawn the attention of law enforcement but also sparked political reactions. The YSR Congress Party shared the video, criticizing the Chandrababu Naidu-led government for the law and order situation in Andhra Pradesh. The party's response indicates a broader concern about student safety and governance within the state.
