HRD Minister Pokhriyal announces 'Manodarpan' to address psychological impact of COVID-19

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal launched 'Manodarpan' initiative for parents, teachers and children amid COVID-19 lockdown to address the psychological impact.

Students have been bearing brunt of pandemic with nationwide spre of COVID-19 compelling government to impose prolonged lockdown, leing to temporary closure of physical school system. lockdown and stay at home order tend to have a psychological impact on kids and students. Keeping this aspect in mind, Central government has come up with an initiative called "Madarpan" for parents, teachers, and students to mitigate psychological impact of lockdown and pandemic. Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank took to Twitter to inform citizens about psychosocial support initiative of government.

  • portal has shared some of tips to have mental wellbeing amid pandemic such as encour children to stay active. d yoga in daily routine as it is good for ir physical and mental health.
  • Create a routine for children at home which can consist of having a set time for sleep, waking up, eating, learning, playtime and free time etc. as a structured schedule helps children stay focused and motivated.
  • Assign simple tasks to perform through day (watering plants, helping to arrange clos/books/play materials, helping younger sibling to learn, etc.)
  • Make sure children stay in touch with ir friends via social media or video calls to help support social and emotional needs of your child.
  • Eng your children in activity-based learning such as puzzles, painting, drawing, and crafting.
  • Encour children to create a journal in which y can jot down ir feelings or emotions, new things learned about one’s own self and/or ors (such as siblings, parents, friends etc.).
  • Do regular indoor exercise with your wards, eat healthy food and have sufficient sleep.
  • Phone a friend or family members residing at or places.
  • Play some games involving entire family.
  • Enable your ward to participate in online classes if possible and allow m to do all ir activities in as similar way as y do rmally.
  • Ensure equate support and attention for your child with special needs wherever applicable and do t hesitate to seek guidance from school principal/school counsellor or special educators.
  • For any medical support, contact local medical authority.

Parents are to play a vital role in ensuring that children maintain ir mental health, by ackwledging ir difficulties, clarifying ir doubts, reassuring m, generating hope and providing emotional support in resolving issues.
