UGC Exam News: What did the HRD ministry advise UGC on exams & academic calendar?

Under latest UGC Exam News, the HRD ministry has advised UGC to revise the exam calendar for pending exams for various courses. See excerpts by Ramesh Pokhriyal

HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank anunced today on June 24th about new updates with regards to UGC exam news. He advised University Grants Commission to reconsider guidelines that y had earlier issued for intermediate and term-end semester exams. He also advised postponing  commencement of new academic calendar as well. He took decision in wake of current situation of pandemic in country and thus prioritising health of students and teachers.

UGC recently urged Universities to set up a Grievance Redressal Cell 

University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a circular to all universities asking m to set up a cell for students to address ir queries regarding examinations and or academic activities that were on put on halt due to COVID-19 outbreak.

In wake of situation arising due to pandemic, UGC had issued guidelines on  Examination and Academic Calendar on April 29. As per latest guidelines, all universities have been advised to plan ir academic activities with a focus on safety and interest of all stakeholders and prioritizing health of all concerned. UGC has also established a task force to monitor grievances of students, teachers, and institutions and to redress m.

UGC's last updates on academic calendar for 2020

  • UGC had ordered all universities to conduct exams of final semester students from July. However, due to current rise in number of COVID-19 cases in India, many students and parents filed petitions to cancel CBSE board exams. This led or exams which were to be conducted in July to be put on a halt.
  • Earlier, UGC had stated that new academic year of 2020-2021 will begin by September for all freshers, while already enrolled students would start from August. 
  • UGC had earlier anunced that intermediate students would be graded based on ir internal assessment. Thus, y had anunced pending exams for all colleges to be conducted in July. 
  • Currently, in wake of increasing Coronavirus cases in country, HRD ministry has w advised UGC to extend dates and revise ir academic calendar for 2020 session.
