World Tourism Day 2024: India’s tourism sector is set to create at least 39.5 million jobs by end of this year, which is likely to rise to 42.3 million employment opportunities by 2025, a report revealed on Thursday. sector will give a big boost to direct employment accounting for 31% of se roles, including tour guides, hotel staff, and tour operators, according to NLB Services, a technology and digital talent solutions provider.
“India's rich culture, diverse religions, and varied landscapes position it as one of world’s premier tourist destinations. World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) forecasts an annual GDP growth of 7.1% for India's travel and tourism sector over next dece. This industry significantly impacts economy, contributing approximately $199.6 billion to GDP. In Union Budget 2024, government allocated ₹2,479 crore for tourism in FY25 which will furr give a push to sector," said Sachin Alug, CEO of NLB Services.

tourism sector has a strong multiplier effect, as each direct job in this field is expected to generate multiple indirect jobs. Indirect employment will make up 69%, with jobs in areas such as local artisans, logistics and transport operators, supply chain workers, IT support for online booking, data analysis, and landscape maintenance.

Spiritual tourism remains a major draw, attracting both domestic and international visitors to cities such as Varanasi, Rishikesh, and Bodh Gaya. ditionally, India ranks 10th globally on Medical Tourism Index (MTI) for 2020-2021 and is expected to rise in coming years, leing to projected increases in number of nurses by 12%, doctors by 10%, and or healthcare staff by 15%.
