Masters in Tamil now to get you seat in Archeology course; Palaniswami thanks PM Modi

Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday thanked PM Narendra Modi for including Master's degree in Tamil in the minimum qualification criteria.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on October 9 thanked PM Narendra Modi for including Masters degree in 'Tamil' langu as one of minimum qualification criteria to secure admission in two-year Post-graduate Diploma in Archaeology in ida's Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute of Archaeology. Taking to Twitter, he wrote that he is thankful to PM Modi for immediate action on his request to add Tamil in minimum qualification criteria to pursue an Archaeology course.

Tamil Nadu CM thanks PM Modi

Recently, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under Union Culture Ministry had published an advertisement regarding two-year Post-graduate diploma course for 2020-22 session at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute of Archaeology. In order to enroll in this course, Masters degrees in several langus such as Sanskrit was minimum eligibility criteria. 
Highlighting that Tamil langu was t included in list, CM Palaniswami had urged PM Modi on October 8 to direct ASI to add Tamil in list. As a response to request, central Government included Master's degree in Tamil w.

CM Palaniswami said, " advertisement has prescribed minimum qualification criteria as a Masters degree in Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit, Arabic or Persian among ors."

Citing advertisement listing Pali, Prakrit, Arabic, or Persian too under classical langu category alongside Sanskrit, Palaniswami pointed out that among listed langus, only Sanskrit was declared a classical langu in 2005 by Centre. "Tamil, which was first langu in India officially recognised as a classical langu in 2004, has been completely igred (in admission process)," he added. 

Considering such facts and to make admission process more inclusive, Palaniswami urged Modi to direct ASI to suitably amend its guidelines and advertisement as well to also include a Master's degree in Tamil langu as one of minimum qualifications for admission to PG Diploma in Archaeology at institute.
