The district administration on Tuesday announced the extension of the closure of 76 government schools in rural areas till Thursday, for the safety of students and teachers.
"76 government schools across eight blocks of the Patna district will remain closed due to rising water levels in the Ganga," the official circular issued by Patna DM, Chandrashekhar Singh read.
Earlier on September 18, the DM had ordered to shut the schools till September 21.
Ganga River is reported to be flowing above the danger mark at Patna's Gandhi Ghat, Digha Ghat, and Hathidah, DM informed.
Several districts with low-lying areas are particularly at risk of flood. The disaster management department shared that a virtual review meeting with officials chaired by additional chief secretary, Pratyaya Amrit was held to evaluate the situation and prepare for potential flooding in 12 districts of Bihar .
As per reports, over 13 lakh people across 12 districts including Buxar, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, and Katihar. are currently affected by flood-life conditions. At least 376 village panchayats are also impacted. Affected people have been evacuated to flood relief camps, the officials informed.
