Punjab Govt Summons Report On Students Protest Against RGUNL VC For Invading Privacy, Sexist Remarks

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGUNL) will remain closed until further orders amid the ongoing student protest against the vice-chancellor.

Patiala: Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGUNL) will remain closed until furr orders amid ongoing student protest against vice-chancellor, Jai Shankar Singh. authorities issued order on Monday and asked all students to return home. This comes a day after students std a massive sit-in protest against VC for allegedly invading privacy of female students inside hostel in name of ‘surprise inspection’ and making sexist remarks. Students are demanding resignation of VC.

Following protests, education minister of Punjab , Harjot Singh Bains said that higher education department has summoned a report from registrar of RGUNL, Patiala regarding protests. "I assure students that justice will be done", education minister tweeted.

What is controversy all about? 

On September 22, VC allegedly entered girls' hostel without prior tice, where even parents are t allowed to enter, and questioned ir clothing choices. y alleged that he made ‘sexist remarks’ and inappropriate comments about girls' appearance. VC said that it was a ‘surprise inspection’ after he got complaints that some girls smoked inside hostel. Moreover, he was t accompanied by any female staff or warden. 

students have also written a letter to Chief Justice of India and Bar Association, demanding action. registrar Prof. Anand Pawar constituted a 9-member committee to resolve ir grievances and called students for a dialogue on Monday but ne of m turned up. students demand immediate resignation of VC.
