1. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

The campus area spread across 325 acres, and it was inaugurated in August of 1961 by Prof. Humayun Kabir. The Institutes of Technology Amendment Act, 1963 has included this institution in the list of, ‘Institutes of National Importance’. Students can live on campus, with over 13 hostel buildings and several apartments providing accommodation. 

2. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay


Same institution; different location. IIT has about 9 institutions across different cities of the country. Be it mechanical, aerospace or civil engineering, this institution offers it all. In Mumbai, the campus is located in Powai and expands over 584 major buildings. The facilities provided for students are great and geared towards helping them achieve great success in the future. 

3. Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur


Justice cannot be done to this list without mentioning at least 3 different IITs. This branch is located in the state of West Bengal and the campus is spread across a sprawling 2,100 acres. This particular campus has turned out many well-established engineers, but none are as famous as Sundar Pichai, the current CEO of Google, or Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister. 

4. Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani


This college is considered to be one of the best engineering colleges in India. It is located in Rajasthan, and was formerly a regional institution. Today, however, it is one of our most famous national universities. The establishment is highly regarded by the Government of India and is included in their list of top-six ‘Institutes of Eminence.’

5. Delhi Technological University (DTU)


Although formerly affiliated with the University of Delhi, today DTU is recognised as an autonomous institution due to its excellence. This college has been in operation since 1961 and offers numerous top-quality facilities to its students. This institute boasts notable alumni like Vinod Dham and Vijay Sharma. The former is credited with the invention of the Pentium chip, while the latter is the founder of Paytm. 

6. Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Allahabad


Located in Uttar Pradesh, this well-known establishment was previously known as  Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNREC). It falls in the list of top engineering colleges in India, and is known around the country for its extremely difficult entrance exam. 7. National Institute of Technology, Karnataka (NITK)


NITK was formerly called the Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KRES). It is situated in Mangalore, Karnataka. It maintains a huge, 296-acre campus that is located near the sea. This college is highly rated by the ‘National Institutional Ranking Framework’ (NIRF) and is recognised by famous media outlets like India Today and Outlook India.

8. College of Engineering, Pune


Also known as COEP, it is an autonomous institution and one of the oldest engineering colleges in Asia.
