2019 Lok Sabha Election Results For Diamond Harbour, West Bengal: Trinamool's Abhishek Banerjee retains his Parliamentary constituency despite tough fight with BJP's Nilanjan Roy

In the VIP constituency of Diamond Harbour in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee contesting on Trinamool ticket appears hold his seat against his competent candidate from CPI(M) Fuad Halim.
After intensive campaigning in Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, sitting Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, who is widely seen as the political heir of Mamata Banerjee, has retained his seat of Diamond Harbour by winning 56.15 per cent votes (7,90,725 votes) as per the final figures by the Election Commission. BJP's Nilanjan Roy come close second with 33.39 votes.
Diamond Harbour went to poll in the last phase of the 2019 General Elections in West Bengal amid several violent clashes across the region, following which Left parties also demanded repolling in the Parliamentary Constituency citing large-scale irregularities in polling. Amid the violence, BJP’s candidate from the constituency Nilanjan Roy's car was also vandalized, with the saffron party and the Trinamool accusing each other of the clashes. The violent clashes further triggered the Election Commission to suspend election campaigning in the state ahead of the final phase of elections by 24 hours.
During the 2019 polls, the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat witnessed extensive poll campaigning from all the key candidates - Trinamool’s Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M)’s Fuad Halim, BJP‘s Nilanjan Roy and Congress’ Soumya Aich Roy. Even after the high-pitched electoral campaigning in Mamata Banerjee’s turf, top BJP leaders including the Prime Minister himself addressed multiple rallies in West Bengal with repeated attacks at Abhishek Banerjee and the ‘Bua-Bhatija’ jibe at the Trinamool chief, could not weave the magic with the voters in the constituency which became TMC’s stronghold only after 2009. Before 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the constituency was a CPI(M) party citadel from 1967-2009 with a significant votebank of the Left, which was won by Somendra Nath Mitra of the Trinamool in 2009
Known for his ground-level network, Abhishek Banerjee won the polls becoming the 26-year-old Member of Parliament in 2014 elections. Youngest MP in the Lower House of the Parliament, he is often called as the "cub of the 16 Lok Sabha".
The assembly segments of the constituency are Diamond Harbour, Maheshtala, Budge Budge, Metiaburuz, Falta, Satgachhia and Bishnupur (SC) which are currently held by TMC.
