In the state of Chhattisgarh there is a three-way contest between the BJP, Congress and the newly formed Mayawati-Ajit Jogi led coalition. With the Congress and BJP going head-to-head with each other, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi campaigning heavily in the state, along with long-time Chief Minister Raman Singh of the BJP and surprise face Navjot Singh Sidhu for the Congress, there is every chance that the election result may also be a referendum on the faces of the various parties.
BJP's Raman Singh being the longest serving Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh has been a familiar face among the voters, with the various pro-welfare schemes that he introduced during his tenure.

While there was a call for boycott of elections by Maoists in the state, there was a massive voters turnout who went ahead to cast their vote to form the new government.
In 2013, BJP won the majority in the state with 49 seats while Congress stood second with a wafer thin margin by winning 39 seats. Moreover, BSP secured only one seat in the state.
