Lok Sabha Elections 2019: BJP releases second list with 36 candidates, Dr Sambit Patra to contest from Odisha's Puri

The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) released its second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 carrying 36 names. BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra will contest the general election from Puri parliamentary constituency in Odisha.

The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) released its second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2019 on late Friday night carrying 36 names for Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Maharashtra and Odisha polls. The list included 23 nominees for Andhra Pradesh, six candidates for Maharashtra and five for Odisha. Also, one candidate each for Assam and Meghalaya were also announced in the list.

BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra will contest the general election from Puri parliamentary constituency in Odisha. While Odisha BJP president Basant Panda will contest from the Kalahandi seat, senior leader Suresh Pujari is set to contest from Bargarh seat.

Other top leaders who have been fielded by the BJP to contest in 2019 polls are:

  • Girish Bapat from Pune (Maharashtra)
  • Dilip Kumar Kilaru from Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh)
  • Bharati Pawar from Dindori (Maharashtra)
  • Sanbor Shullai from Shillong (Meghalaya)

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Central Election Committee of the BJP here. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj among others.

Meanwhile, BJP released its candidate list for the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday. The BJP's first list contained 184 candidates including some of its biggest leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Smriti Irani and others. It covers seats from a number of states. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will once again contest from Varanasi. BJP party chief Amit Shah will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections for the first time, from the Gandhinagar constituency in Gujarat.

Along with the bigwigs from the BJP, the Narendra Modi-led party also announced the contest for a number of new entrants from Congress and TMC for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
