The counting of votes began at 8 am on May 23 in each of the 542 constituencies (the Vellore Lok Sabha polls had been countermanded).
Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies won over 350 seats. The United Progressive Alliance failed to touch three figures and stood at 95 seats. Even the combined tally of all the other parties did not reach the three-figure mark, as it constituted just 93 seats.
