Voting day controversies tracker: As Phase 1 of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections begins here's what's stirring up controversy

The dance of democracy in India has begun as the much-awaited Lok Sabha elections 2019 is underway on April 11, 2019. The assembly elections in four states are also being held on April 11, 2019. As there are stories of young and old participating in democracy by casting their votes, there are stories of politicians creating a ruckus and causing disruption during the elections, making allegations about the electoral process, and many others leading to controversies.

The dance of democracy in India has begun as the much-awaited Lok Sabha elections 2019 is underway on April 11, 2019. 

Twenty states with 91 seats are going to polls during the Phase I of the elections on Thursday.

The assembly elections in four states are also being held on April 11, 2019. The single phase state polls are going on in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, while the first phase of four phase state polls for Odisha is being held concurrently along with the general elections.

As there are stories of young and old participating in democracy by casting their votes, there are stories of politicians creating a ruckus and causing disruption during the elections, making allegations about the electoral process, and many others leading to controversies.

Jana Sena Party MLA and candidate Madhusudhan Gupta damages EVM alleging candidates' names weren't displayed

A Jana Sena Party MLA and candidate Madhusudhan Gupta damaged an EVM by throwing it on the floor because he was angry that candidates names weren't displayed properly in Gooty of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. He has been detained.

BJP's Sanjeev Balyan alleges fake voting in Muzaffarnagar

On the occasion of Lok Sabha elections Phase I, BJP's Sanjeev Balyan who is contesting from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh alleged fake voting saying that women wearing burkha were voting without their faces being checked by polling officers. He has also demanded a repoll if the matter was not investigated.

"I saw women coming in burkha and voting without even getting checked by the officer. It is a matter of fake voting. If someone is having a problem in showing their face then they shouldn't vote. Also, there are no women constables in any of the poling booth."

'EVM machines not functioning,' allege BJP MP Sanjeev Balyan, voters in Muzaffarnagar   

Voters are in Muzaffarnagar have said that EVM machines are not working in the booths. MP Sanjeev Balyan (who is also BJP candidate from Muzaffarnagar) said that EVMs are not working in most of the polling booths. However, the officials have said that EVMs are working and there is no need for concern.

BSP candidate from Bijnore Malook Nagar alleges EVM tampering

BSP candidate from Uttar Pradesh Malook Nagar has said that voters are pressing the BSP button but the vote is going to BJP candidate. He said that the party has complained to Election Commission.
