After Rajasthan and MP, Congress promises loan waiver in Haryana

Weeks ahead of assembly polls in Haryana, state Congress chief Kumari Selja has announced that the Grand Old Party will announce a loan waiver for the poor and farmers in the state if voted to power. Speaking to news agency PTI, Kumari Selja stated that the Congress party will fulfil the loan waiver promise as mentioned in its manifesto for the Haryana assembly polls. He went on to assert that the party will waive off the loans who are suffering under the BJP government. Speaking about the loan waivers promised by Congress ahead of the 2018 assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, the loan waiver would be implemented within days of assuming power.
"When our government comes to power, we will waive loans of the poor, especially people who take small loans. We are also going to write off the loans of farmers who are being pushed to a corner and are suffering under the BJP government. The loan waiver would be implemented within days of assuming power as has been done in Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh," she said in an interview to PTI.

Congress' loan waiver promise in 2018 assembly polls
Ahead of the 2018 assembly elections in five state, the then Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had promised a nationwide waiver of farm loans of up to Rs 2 lakh within 10 days if voted to power. Rahul Gandhi had also claimed that the CM would be changed if the waiver doesn’t take place in that time frame. Notably, had made a similar loan waiver promise ahead of the 2019 general elections as well, and accusing PM Modi of not “waiving a rupee of farmer’s loans in the last four years".

"Count till 10 after we come to power, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10. And I am giving you a guarantee that within 10 days the loan of every Madhya Pradesh farmer," Rahul Gandhi had said during assembly elections campaigning.
While Congress won the 2018 assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, loans of the farmers were not allegedly not waived off as promised by the party.
