Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a rally in Nandurbar's Navapur on Saturday while campaigning for the BJP in Maharashtra ahead of the Assembly elections in the State. Amit Shah slammed the Congress and accused the party of not doing anything for the welfare of the OBC community.
'People of Adivasi and OBC community elected BJP Govt'
Shah said, "Today, I came here in a place which has the majority of Adivasis and I feel proud in saying that the Narendra Modi Government is the government elected by the country's Adivasi and OBC community." He added, "BJP is the party with the maximum number of MPs and MLAs from the OBC and the tribal community and the Congress did not do anything for the welfare of the OBC community except for making promises. Whenever the BJP Government was formed in the Centre, they started the work for their welfare." The Home Minister further stated that earlier it was the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led BJP Government and now under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, various schemes have been started to support the people of the OBC and tribal communities.
Shah listed works carried out by Central and State Govts
While attacking the Congress, Amit Shah on Friday asked its leader Rahul Gandhi what four generations of his family have done for the Adivasis during their 70-year rule in the country and stressed the region will be free of Naxalism in the next five years. Addressing a poll rally at Aheri in Gadchiroli district, Shah, also the BJP chief, said that the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre did more works for the Adivasis than the previous Congress and NCP governments both at the Centre and in Maharashtra. Listing the works carried out by the BJP-led Central and State governments, Shah said that in Gadchiroli alone, they have built 1.30 lakh toilets, provided 48,000 gas cylinders, supplied electricity to 48,000 Adivasis households, and gave homes to 8,000 poor tribals.
Hailed PM Modi for scrapping Article 370
Shah also hailed PM Modi for scrapping Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and said that the Prime Minister has secured the country. He alleged the Congress was not ready to scrap the Article due to vote bank politics. "But Modi Ji did it in the first session after winning over 300 seats (in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls). Now, Kashmir is linked with India forever and is on the way of development and the process of eradicating terrorism has begun," he said.
