Charges of irregularities in counting of votes in Bihar: CEC says ultimate decision lies with people
Against the backdrop of allegations by the opposition of irregularities in the counting of votes in the Bihar Assembly polls, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora on Thursday said while the Election Commission does not react to comments made by political parties, the ultimate decision lies with people.

He also said Bihar chief electoral officer has alrey responded to everything. EC h to hold four press conferences on counting day on vember 10 to respond to various aspects of process, Arora pointed out.

Responding to a query on "slow pace of counting", Arora said keeping in mind distancing rms in place due to COVID-19 pandemic, number of voters per polling station was restricted to 1,000 inste of usual 1,500.

This h resulted in an increase of 33,000 polling stations. This time, Bihar h over one lakh polling stations. More poling stations meant use of 63 per cent ditional electronic voting machines (EVMs).
number of counting tables per hall was also halved to seven inste of 14 and number of counting locations also increased from 38 to 55. counting of votes, which began at 8 am on vember 10, continued till wee hours of vember 11.Arora, along with fellow election commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar, paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.He said poll panel h paid tributes to Gandhi after successful completion of 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

"Today, commission came to thank Far of Nation for successful completion of Bihar polls as y were held in show of COVID-19," CEC said.
