Amidst reports of Congress offering the post of Chief Minister to Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) chief Dushyant Chautala, he refuted the reports stating that he had not held discussions with anyone yet. Furthermore, he said the final decision would be taken after the declaration of results. Earlier, sources indicated that Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had made overtures to the JJP chief. As per sources, Chautala demanded the CM post if his party were to ally with the Congress. There was further speculation that Hooda's son Deepinder Hooda was on his way to Jind to meet Chautala regarding this matter.

The Chautala factor

Dushyant Chautala has had a successful electoral journey so far. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Dushyant Chautala as a candidate of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) entered the record books by becoming the youngest elected Member of Parliament by defeating Kuldeep Bishnoi of the Haryana Janhit Congress with a margin of 31,847 votes. However, there was a rift within the family after which some leaders including Dushyant Chautala were expelled from the party. Thereafter, he founded the JJP. In the present election, it is contesting all the seats. Earlier in the day, he indicated that the JJP could be a kingmaker in case of a hung assembly.
