In a major upset for the BJP in Haryana, former Olympic medalist and party's candidate from Baroda constituency Yogeshwar Dutt has lost his debut election to Congress candidate Sri Krishnan Hooda. At the time of writing the article, the Election Commission of India website showed Dutt trailing by a margin of over 5,000 votes. Sri Krishan Hooda emerged triumphant in the 2009 and 2014 elections by defeating INLD’s Kapoor Singh Narwal each time. He defeated the INLD candidate by a margin of 5,183 votes which was 4.3% of the total votes polled in the constituency. INC had a vote share of 41.93% in 2014 in the seat.
'My experience during election campaigning has been a good one'
Speaking to Republic TV on Thursday morning, Dutt said that BJP will win with a huge margin in the State. He said that election campaigning gave him an opportunity to listen to people and their problems. The Olympic winner stated that it is time to work and solve people's problems.

Yogeshwar Dutt said, "My experience during the election campaigning has been a good one. I met a lot of people and heard their problems. I faced difficulty in understanding their problems as I am not here to give false hopes. I explained to people that we will work for you and we will be there for you. In my life, I have learned that no work is easy. I would appeal to people to maintain peace as the election results come in. I am hopeful BJP will win in both the Haryana and Maharashtra."

Haryana assembly polls results
Early trends from Haryana Assembly Elections 2019 showed that BJP might form the majority but the party has hit a roadblock as it seems to be falling short of a majority as Congress was seen coverning the gap. They are currently leading in 36 seats, with Congress close behind on 34 seats. Trends show JJP has the advantage in 10 seats and they might play a decisive role in case the BJP fails to form the majority. INLD is leading in two seats and they can also play an important role in such a situation.
