Haryana Elections: BS Hooda granted Leader Of Opposition status
Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda is all set to be declared the Leader of the opposition in Haryana. The decision comes in ahead of the elections.

In the wake of the Haryana Elections, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been declared the Leader of the opposition in Haryana. In a letter, the speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly has asked Bhupinder Singh Hooda to be declared leader of opposition in the state. The decision comes in just days after Bhupinder Singh was declared the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in Haryana.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda to be the leader of the opposition
The letter states that the decision is carried out in terms of section(2d) of the Indian Constitution of the Haryana Legislative Assembly (allowances and pension members) Act,1975. It also demands that Bhupinder Singh Hooda be entitled to the facilities and allowances as per the Haryana Legislative Assembly (allowances and pension members) Act,1975.

Congress-Samajwadi party alliance in Haryana Elections?
Speculations of Congress and Samajwadi Parties contesting elections together in Haryana were raised when Samajwadi Party President Mayawati met Bhupinder Singh Hooda in a closed-door meeting on Sunday. The meeting was held in the backdrop of Mayawati withdrawing alliance with the Jannayak Janata Party for state elections slated in October. The meeting was also attended by the newly appointed Congress president for Haryana Kumari Selja.

Hooda opposes Congress’s stand on Article 370
The decision to declare him the leader of the opposition comes just weeks after Bhupinder Singh Hooda supported the centre’s move on Article 370. Supporting the Narendra Modi Government on Article 370, Hooda had said that, “If the Union government does something right, I appreciate it. When they removed Article 370, a lot of my colleagues opposed it. My party lost its way and is not the Congress that was there before. I will not compromise with anyone when it comes to patriotism and self-respect. On this, I supported (the Centre’s stand on) Article 370." His statements come in just months ahead of crucial assembly elections in Haryana. Bhupinder Singh Hooda has was the Chief Minister of Haryana from 2005 to 2014.
